UFC 211: Junior dos Santos Discusses Future Following “Terrible” Loss

Junior dos Santos was quickly taken out by Stipe Miocic at UFC 211, and although “Cigano” is devastated by the defeat, he remains upbeat about his future in fighting.

Dos Santos campaigned hard for a rematch with Miocic, by citing the fact he held a 2014, decision win over the heavyweight champ. The UFC and Miocic were on board with the idea, and thus, the two were booked to fight in Dallas, Saturday night.

JDS landed a couple of hard kicks to the calf of Miocic early on, which clearly hurt the champ. But, Miocic kept moving forward, and put dos Santos away with a big right and follow up punches. After the bout, the former champion had this to say about the defeat (quote via Bloody Elbow):

“That’s the heavyweight division, you know?” dos Santos said during the post-fight press conference. “I think I’ve made many, many guys feel like that. It’s terrible, man. It’s terrible. Because I was prepared … and I had a lot to give there and everything, like I said, everything was working very well. The way we expected.”

Since the loss was “Cigano’s” third in his last five bouts, and because the 33 year-old’s been involved in several wars, some observers are wondering what the future holds for JDS. But, the heavy handed fighter also had this to say about his future:

“You know, I’m here to fight,” dos Santossaid. “And now I’m looking forward for my next fight already because I want to delete this thing … I’m still looking forward for my future fights because that’s what I love to do.”

It will be interesting to see when and who dos Santos faces next. One would think a top ten ranked heavyweight, but someone who’s not in the top five, could be in order.
