Recently Anderson Silva’s made it clear he’s not too happy with the UFC , and Jorge Masvidal believes the promotion should do whatever it takes, to make amends with the legend.
Silva has blasted the UFC for its decision to have Georges St-Pierre fight middleweight champ, Michael Bisping (although those plans have changed). In fact, Silva claimed the UFC originally told him that he’d fight GSP, if and when the Canadian star returned. The former middleweight champ had also said that if he wasn’t booked to fight Yoel Romero for an interim belt, he was “done”.
Well, Masvidal was asked to weigh-in on Silva’s situation this week, in advance of his bout with Demian Maia on Saturday. Here is some of what the outspoken welterweight had to say (quote via MMA Junkie):
“A guy like Anderson Silva is one the greatest champions we’ve had,” said Masvidal. “If he’s not happy, that says a lot.”
“Why not make that guy happy out of all people?” Masvidal added. “That guy made the company plenty of money. Make that guy happy. Whatever he’s asking for, just give it to him. It’s Anderson Silva.”
Chances are more than a few fans agree with Masvidal here. It’s going to be really interesting to see how this all plays out with Silva. Now that Romero is apparently going to fight Bisping next, rather than GSP, maybe a superfight between the latter and “The Spider” could materialize afterall?
Maia – Masvidal will be part of UFC 211, which will take place in Dallas, Texas.
