Al Iaquinta scored a vicious and impressive KO win in his return to the Octagon last night, but it could be a while before we see the heavy handed fighter scrap again.
Iaquinta took out Diego Sanchez in the first round of their UFC FN 108 fight, as he knocked the rugged vet out with a big right hand. If you’ve followed the career of the lightweight, then you know he’s been publicly critical of the UFC recently, and how much they’re paying him. Well, after his win on Saturday, Iaquinta made it clear he’s still not happy about his compensation, and as a result, he’s not sure if and when he’ll fight again (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I’ve just thought about tonight. I just wanted to get in there and have fun, and that’s exactly what I did. (UFC on FOX 25) would be awesome, something I’d really love to do, but I’m not going to do for the contract I have now. Probably not. Definitely not for a top opponent.
“These guys are dangerous. I’m not going in there to get paid what I’m getting paid to get hurt. If I’m out for two years, where am I going to make any money?”
Iaquinta is reportedly making $26,000 to show right now and $26,000 to win. With his victory on Saturday, he’s now won five straight. So, when you consider Iaquinta’s comments, and the fact he’s also a real estate agent, it’s certainly possible we won’t see him fighting again for a while. Not unless the UFC tables a raise, or isn’t too upset about the tweets Iaquinta sent the promotion, after the card’s bonuses were announced.
