One day after claiming the Tachi Palace Fights flyweight title, submission grappler Ulysses Gomez has been added to Bellator’s season three bantamweight tournament, which will crown the promotion’s first-ever 135-pound champ when it gets underway in August.
Gomez improved to 6-1 with a five-round unanimous decision over jiu-jitsu black belt Luis Gonzalez on Wednesday in California.
“My brother (pro soccer player Herculez Gomez) is a great athlete and a role model to me,” Gomez said in a release. “My own career, on the other hand, is just getting started and I think Bellator is going to take me to the next level. I love the tournament format, I love that they market to Hispanics. God’s given me the talent, so now I want to make the most of it.”
