Although Cody Garbrandt has argued that Demetrious Johnson should have to go through him, before setting a new title defense record, the flyweight champ says that’s not happening.
Before Johnson submitted Wilson Reis last weekend, to tie Anderson Silva’s title defense record at 10, “No Love” said the potential, record breaking bout should come against him. Johnson initially said he was on board, but, on the latest MMA Hour, he had this to say about Garbrandt (quote via MMA Fighting):
“He’s his own person,” Johnson said. “Me and Cody talked off scene, everything’s fine, its just business. … It will not be my next fight. Don’t worry about it.”
The chances of that fight going down anytime soon were already slim, as Garbrandt is booked to face TJ Dillashaw on July 8th.
