Artem Lobov is about to compete in the headliner of a UFC card, but the man who’s going to face him doesn’t think he should even be in the organization…
The featherweight who will battle Lobov at UFC FN 108 is of course, Cub Swanson, who has long been considered one of the best 145’ers on the planet. After all, Swanson has been with the WEC / UFC since 2007, and the dangerous fighter has gone 8-2 in his last 10 bouts.
Lobov, meanwhile, battled his way to the finals of TUF 22 in 2015, and has gone 2-2 in official UFC action.
Well, recently Swanson was a guest on “The MMA Hour”, and he had this to say about Lobov (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I don’t believe that talent-wise he shouldn’t be in the UFC,” Swanson said. “I feel like with his record and things like that there are so many more deserving people to be in the UFC. So somebody else in that situation, if it wouldn’t have been for Conor, he would have had to stream together a lot more wins and do a lot more things. So I think people are pissed off about that. I particularly don’t like him for that.
“When you treat your career early on really crappy, you can’t expect to be in a good position. That’s just the way pro fighting is…”
Now, Swanson’s not the only person who’s argued that Lobov’s record, which is 13-12-1, isn’t UFC worthy. Further, due to the fact Lobov’s a friend and teammate of superstar, Conor McGregor, many believe the latter had a lot to do with getting his buddy into the UFC.
But, none of this changes the fact that Lobov is coming off an impressive win over Teruto Ishihara, and that he has a solid chin and heavy hands. So, if Swanson makes the mistake of looking past “The Russian Hammer”, he could lose to unranked 145’er.
