Carneiro came out circling and fired in kicks to the outside and inside of Stephens’ legs. The latter, meanwhile, kept hunting for an opportunity to land his big right. As the opening round neared its end, Carneiro scored a beautifully timed takedown. Round two featured more of the same, except Carneiro’s pace slowed somewhat, and as a result, more exchanges in the pocket took place. Stephens continued to press forward in round three, but once again, Carneiro countered with legkicks, his jab, and a takedown. Close fight.

Ronaldo Souza vs. Robert Whittaker
Souza pushed forward from the opening horn, and while he was able to take Whittaker down at point, the Australian fighter quickly got back to his feet. Whittaker proceeded to counter well as the first round came to a close. Shortly into round two, Whittaker sent Souza to the deck with a quick right hand. Whittaker allowed Souza to get back to his feet, however, rather than engage the vaunted grappler on the mat. Whittaker continued to pick Souza apart on the feet, and after he tagged the Brazilian star with a head kick, follow up punches brought about the ref’s intervention. What a win for Whittaker.

Shortly into round two, Namajunas floored Waterson with a headkick, and followed up with punches from above. Both flyweights kept a busy pace throughout the opening round, but the champ Johnson got the better of the striking exchanges. Reis was able to score one takedown, but Johnson quickly got back to his feet. In round two, Johnson started to land more frequently, and as the round neared it’s end, the champ landed a hard knee to the body of Reis and then punches from above. Johnson really started to pick Reis apart in round three, and then took the challenger to the mat. From there, Johnson bloodied Reis with punches, and rolled back for a fight ending armbar. With the win, Johnson ties Anderson Silva’s title defense record at 10.
