After recently withdrawing from a July showdown against middleweight contender Nate Marquardt following the death of his father, Alessio Sakara is now expected to return to action against Massachusetts native Jorge Rivera at UFC 118 on August 28 in Boston, according to MMAjunkie.
After falling to just 4-5 in the UFC with a loss to Martin Kampmann in mid-2008, Rivera (18-7) earned back-to-back wins over Nissen Osterneck and Rob Kimmons before scoring a second-round knockout of former contender Nate Quarry at UFC Fight Night 21 in March for his third-straight victory.
Following a 3-4 start to his UFC career, the former light heavyweight Sakara (15-7) has won three-straight over Joe Vedepo, Leites, and most-recently James Irvin at UFC on Versus 1 in March.
UFC 118 is headlined by lightweight champ Frankie Edgar’s first title defense vs. former title-holder BJ Penn, while the card also features a matchup between lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard as well as Randy Couture vs. James Toney.
