Cormier and Johnson are set to throw down in the main event of UFC 210 this Saturday, which will take place in Buffalo, New York. The two battled for the first time back in 2015, and Cormier won the light-heavyweight crown, by submitting Johnson in round three.
Before that fight, Johnson had already wrecked plenty of opponents, but since then, the feared striker has taken out the likes of Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira. Only Manuwa made it into the second round against “Rumble”, and Teixeira was flattened in just 13 seconds.
But, although the buzz regarding how dangerous Johnson is, has only increased since he fought “DC” for the first time, the champ recently said this (quote via UFC.com):
“Anthony is the boogie man,” Cormier said. “People love the way that he fights. They love to watch him knock out people. They love that aggressive, striking style. But I do like beating Rumble because people make him out to be something that I truly don’t believe he is. I’m not afraid of him in any way, shape or form. There’s nothing about Anthony Johnson that scares me. You look at other fighters and it was clear they were terrified of Anthony. You won’t see that from me.”
Is Cormier perhaps playing mental games here? Possibly. But, since he does have a win over Johnson, chances are he’s pretty confident heading into their rematch. Unless Johnson can shut down Cormier’s wrestling (yes, despite the fact “DC” says he doesn’t need it to win…), it could be a tough night for the challenger.
