After Bisping shocked the world last June, by knocking out Luke Rockhold to become champ, he was booked to fight Dan Henderson. “Hendo” wasn’t ranked in the top ten, but since he’s one of the greatest fighters to date, and because he held a nasty, KO win over Bisping, the UFC went with the rematch. Bisping won the tightly contested fight by decision, and now he’ll take on Georges St-Pierre at a date to be determined. The former welterweight champ has never fought at 185 in the Octagon.
Well, several fighters have spoken out about GSP’s title shot, and recently Mousasi had this to say about the subject (quote via MMA Junkie):
“The UFC is making these fights that don’t make any sense,” Mousasi said. “Dan Henderson and now (Georges St-Pierre), so if they would have done it the correct way, (Yoel) Romero would have fought for his belt, (Ronaldo) ‘Jacare’ (Souza) would have got his shot by now, and I would have been afterwards. But because of this fight (between Bisping and St-Pierre) that really doesn’t make any sense, the No. 1 contenders have to wait.
“Let’s say after this fight, I have to put everything on the line again to get a win, and then fight for the title, where it actually should have been me already if the UFC hadn’t made those stupid fights.”
“This fight”, of course, is Mousasi’s scrap with Chris Weidman this Saturday at UFC 210. If Bisping was fighting, say, Romero next, then an impressive win over Weidman could very well move Mousasi into a bout with the champ. But, as we know, that’s not the case.
All this aside, Weidman – Mousasi has the makings to be an outstanding fight.
