Robbie Lawler will face Renato “Babalu” Sobral in a 195-pound catchweight matchup at Strikeforce’s June 16 event in Los Angeles, according to Sherdog.
Lawler was expected to rematch Jason “Mayhem” Miller in the main event of the Showtime-televised card, but Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told Sherdog that Miller is likely to be suspended for his role in a post-fight brawl as the promotion’s CBS-televised “Nashville” event earlier this month.
Lawler (19-5) scored a first-round KO of Melvin Manhoef in January to bounce back from a June loss to Jake Shields, while the UFC veteran Sobral (35-8) won five-straight before suffering a first-round KO to Gegard Mousasi in August to lose the Strikeforce light heavyweight title.
Undefeated heavyweight Bobby Lashley and former EliteXC lightweight champ KJ Noons have also been announced for the June 16 event.
