Conor McGregor attended a boxing card last night at Madison Square Garden in NYC, and the UFC champ’s making headlines today, as a result of what he said. What else is new right?
McGregor was at the event to watch decorated amateur boxer, Michael Conlan, make his pro debut. The Irish fighter went on to score a third round, TKO victory. As McGregor was exiting the Garden, things got pretty interesting reportedly. The Irish star approached the media and began telling them a thing or two about the long rumored, Floyd Mayweather bout.
According to a follow up report from the LA Times, here is just some of what McGregor had to say:
“When I step in there, I’m going to shock the whole … world. Twenty eight years of age, confident as a mother, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand. I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words…”
“I am boxing!”
According to the aforementioned report, McGregor also told the Times exclusively this, while discussing a timeline for the boxing match:
“[September] is what I’m thinking. That’s what the word is. That’s what we’re close to doing.”
So, there you go. McGregor is one of the best in the game, if not the best, at promoting fights. But, chances are, he does truly believe he could take out Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers of all time.
We’ll see if the fight actually materializes, but it certainly looks like we’re heading in that direction.
