Michael Bisping’s claim that he’ll fight Yoel Romero, shortly after he takes on Georges St-Pierre, has been met with some skepticism, including some from Joe Rogan, but the middleweight champ’s standing by his comments.
The news that St-Pierre is receiving a shot at the middleweight title in his long awaited return, has been met with mixed reviews. Not only has GSP not fought since 2013, he’s never competed at 185 in the UFC. Then, of course, there’s also the fact that Yoel Romero has been wrecking the division, and was expected to face Bisping next, before the GSP bout was announced.
In response to the heat, Bisping has said he’ll fight Romero, not long after he takes on St-Pierre (the exact date of the fight has yet to be determined). Well, Rogan recently questioned whether Bisping would be ready to fight Romero that quickly, after facing GSP. During Bisping’s podcast, “The Countdown“, the champ had this to say in response (quote via Mixed Martial Arts.com / transcribed by Ben Kiely):
“Well actually, it’s not crazy, it’s not ludicrous, it’s not beyond the realms of imagination, because Georges St-Pierre, in a lot of ways, is the perfect warm-up fight for Yoel Romero,” said Bisping. “They’ve got very similar styles. Yes, Yoel is bigger and hits harder, but they’ve both got fantastic wrestling, they’re both shorter guys than me.”Say we fight, I don’t know when it is, say UFC 215 for argument’s sake. UFC 217, I’ll do it (fight Romero). I’ll do it because I don’t want all the work I’ve done, all the wrestling work I’ve done, I don’t want to get rusty in that regard.”

Guess we’ll see what happens. There’s no doubt that Romero and his fans want to see him throw down with Bisping sooner than later.
Dana White has said that he hopes to book Bisping – GSP for International Fight Week in early July.
