In Belfort, you have one of the greatest fighters to date, who not that long ago, had blasted his way into a title fight with now former 185 champ, Chris Weidman. Belfort was stopped by the latter in the opening round, however, and since then, he’s lost two of his next three fights. Since Belfort is now 39, a one sided loss to Gastelum will likely prompt retirement talk.
Gastelum, meanwhile, is widely regarded to be one of the most promising fighters in the game. The 25 year-old has struggled with making 170, but, he’s coming off impressive wins over Johny Hendricks and Tim Kennedy. If he takes out Belfort, then a bout with a top five ranked 185’er could very well come next.
