Over the years, Bisping has become one of the more polarizing fighters on the UFC roster, as a result of his ability to prompt laughs or boos with his comments. The fact he’s a ridiculously tough fighter, who has been at the top of the sport for years, also helps.
Last Friday, the UFC held a press conference to promote the upcoming bout between Bisping and St-Pierre. Bisping was late to the event, but within seconds of his arrival, he was hurling trash at the Canadian star. GSP appeared on the latest “MMA Hour“, and the former welterweight champ had this to say about Bisping’s actions (quote via Bloody Elbow):
“I thought he would be absent from that press conference when it first started and he wasn’t there. And he started yelling at me,” GSP said. “You know, there are a lot of guys who are very good trash talkers in this game. Conor McGregor is one, Chael Sonnen is one, he’s an expert. And I always feel like I cannot get into a war of words with these guys, because first, English is not my first language, and I’m just not good at trash talking. I do my talking in the fight. I’m not a good talker, I’m a good fighter.
“But what I can say is this: I do not believe Michael Bisping is a good trash talker. I believe the best thing he did for me was to talk, because he embarrassed himself every time he opened his mouth. So he did the job for me. I didn’t even have to say anything.”
There’s likely a lot of people who agree with St-Pierre, as Bisping went on the offensive and then some. But, the champ’s argument is that GSP believes he’s going to be an easy fight, and that’s why he campaigned for a bout with Bisping for his return bout. Is that accurate? GSP says no.
No date has been set for Bisping – GSP, but Dana White has said he’s hoping to book the fight for International Fight Week in July.
