Recently, Ferguson argued that his bout on Saturday with Khabib Nurmagomedov should be the card’s main event, rather than the Woodley – Stephen Thompson rematch. The 170 champ was asked to weigh-in on that assessment, and Woodley noted that they’re in the headliner, since, well, he’s the champion…
Well, while speaking to the media, Ferguson had this to say as a follow-up (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I heard he fired back, but you know what? He better watch out because I won The Ultimate Fighter at 170.”
Ferguson has talked about returning to welterweight in the past, and he also told reporters he’s been focusing more on weight-lifting:
“…I’m tired of looking like a skinny little Mexican out there and everybody doubting me, so I wanted to put some time in. I started my camp in early January, man. I was in a New Year’s resolution to change a little bit. I’m, like, not even midway — I’m like a quarter through my training as far as my weight lifting.”
Now, it should also be noted that Ferguson went on to add that he’d be happy to “hold the torch at 155 for a long time”, so it doesn’t sound like a move’s going to happen anytime soon.
UFC 209 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
