Ever since Dillashaw elected to go train with Team Elevation in Colorado, and was subsequently barred from Team Alpha Male, Garbrandt has been highly critical of his former teammate. Initially, there was more of a feud between Dillashaw and the TAM founder Faber, but now that Dillashaw and Garbrandt are set to fight sometime later this year, their beef has reached new levels.
Garbrandt and Dillashaw are set to coach opposite one another on the upcoming season of TUF, and recently they were on hand at a media day to promote the show. While discussing his rivalry with Garbrandt, Dillashaw had this to say (quote via MMA Fighting):
“Cody should have no involvement in this at all,” Dillashaw said. “He was coming in, I was on my way out, for the most part. We were never friends. It wasn’t like I did anything to dishonor him or whatever. I think it’s more Urijah pumping these guys up and continuing to push this trash and build this team, which is money in his pocket. Every guy that fights from there pays him. I think it’s him being the mastermind behind this whole thing.”
“You think you make friendships for a lifetime and they seemed to turn pretty quick,” Dillashaw added. “You’re disappointed with certain people. I wasn’t always close with everyone. I wasn’t ever really friends with Garbrandt. We weren’t really that close…”
Regardless of whether Garbrandt has been pushed by Faber or not, chances are things are only going to get worse between “No Love” and Dillashaw. The former bantamweight champ also claimed during the media day that Garbrandt has been an “ass” during the filming of TUF 25. Now, could they be pushing their rivalry just to pump the show and their fight? Possibly. But it certainly doesn’t seem like it’s completely fabricated either.
TUF 25 will begin airing on FS1, April 19th.
