Ever since Dillashaw elected to go start training with Team Elevation, instead of just Team Alpha Male, Urijah Faber and Garbrandt have been extremely critical of him. Faber barred Dillashaw from training witih TAM moving forward, and then things got particularly heated.
A bout between Dillashaw and Faber never materialized, as the latter has since retired. But, now Dillashaw will coach opposite of Garbrandt on the upcoming season of TUF, before they throw down later this year.
“I was never close with him, I was never friends with him and he’s just obsessed with what I’m doing and how I’m living and what’s going on in my life. I don’t question anything of what he’s got going on cause that’s him. I could care less. You know, I just kind of feel like they’re just obsessed with what I’ve got going on. Off-camera, not on interviews, things are fine. Things are perfectly fine. We’re in rooms together and things are nothing, but as soon as the camera’s on and doing interviews, he’s the tough guy because he wants to look cool. For him it’s all about looking cool and getting his social media followers up. It’s a lot of petty stuff…”
It’s going to be fascinating to see how things play out between these two in the coming months. Garbrandt feuded with Dominick Cruz and then some, before they fought at UFC 207, and obviously it didn’t affect his performance.
Feud aside, on account of the abilities of both Dillashaw and Garbrandt, that fight has the makings of being something very, very special.
No date has been set yet for Garbrandt – Dillashaw.
