Jim Miller isn’t known for making outrageous statements, but that doesn’t mean he’s not confident he can defeat any 155’er on the planet.
If you’re a longtime fan, then you know that Miller has been with the UFC for nearly a decade, and has faced many of the promotion’s best lightweights. Not only that, but Miller was a top ranked contender for sometime, thanks to victories over the likes of Joe Lauzon, Melvin Guillard and Charles Oliveira, among others.
Miller incurred several losses in recent years, but after discovering he was battling Lyme disease, the New Jersey fighter has won three straight. In advance of his bout this Saturday at UFC 208 with Dustin Poirier, Miller told MMA Junkie he can “beat anybody that weighs in at 155 pounds”. Miller also relayed this:
“My goal has always been to fight the best and dominate them and beat them up, and there’s no better way to fight the best than to be the reigning champ,” Miller said. “I would love the opportunity to fight McGregor. Absolutely love it. … I know that I match up really well against him. The thing is, none of those other things are guarantees. There’s no guarantees of how much money I’d make fighting him or anything like that. I was 9-1 in this promotion and if I went 10-1 there still wasn’t a guarantee I was getting a title shot. It’s just the opportunity to fight him.”
Now, considering Miller has been facing top tier talent for years, and because he’s extremely dangerous on the floor, it’s not surprising to hear him say this. Miller went on to acknowledge, however, that he needs to score some more wins, before he’s back in the title shot mix.
UFC 208 will take place in Brooklyn, New York.
