UFC 208 will be historic, because it will crown the promotion’s first ever, women’s featherweight champ, but that’s not the only compelling storyline tied to the headliner.
As you likely know, Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie are going to battle for the inaugural, 145 title, and both women are ridiculously, decorated fighters. De Randamie ruled the Muay Thai / kickboxing world before she moved into MMA, by going 370-0 and winning multiple titles.
Holm, on the other hand, went 33-2-3 in boxing before she switched to MMA. During her run, “The Preacher’s Daughter” won championships in three different weight classes.
But, de Randamie, is not a former UFC bantamweight champ like Holm is. So, if Holm can secure the featherweight belt as well, her status in combat sports is going to reach a whole other level. On the latest “UFC Tonight“, here is what Holm had to say about the subject (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I will feel like I’ve done something that no other fighter has done and will be proud of it. But I always stretch for more. There will be other opportunities after that and I don’t want to feel like I’ve done it all.”
First things first, however, and that’s getting by the very dangerous de Randamie. While discussing her opponent, Holm said this:
“She’s really tough. This is the first time in MMA I’ll be fighting someone taller and bigger than me. She has a strong Muay Thai clinch game. I’m ready for it. She’s tough. I know I’ve worked very hard and I’m ready to go.”
It’s going to be fascinating to see how the fight plays out. UFC 208 will take place in Brooklyn, New York.
