UFC 80 To Be Held in Newcastle, England in January
The UFC’s first event of the year will be held in January in Newcastle, England according to a report from The Fight Network:
While the Ultimate Fighting Championship has mapped out events for Nov. 17, Dec. 29, and Feb. 2 in the U.S., its UK arm is planning its first event of 2008 for as early as January 19 or 26.
UFC 80 is scheduled to touch down at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, a northern city with a population of only 260,000, but well known throughout the country for its vibrant nightlife and personality. The 11,000-seat Metro arena is a choice venue, as it has hosted numerous World Wrestling Entertainment events and will likely attract an MMA-savvy audience.
Previous reports stated that the UFC was tentatively planning a January event in Montreal, Canada but that event now appears to be on hold until later in 2008. The proposed event had hit scheduling conflicts with hockey season being in full swing. Georges St. Pierre, who will receive a title shot in 2008, will now likely headline the event.
According to the report Jess Liaudin is likely to face Marcus Davis at the event while Terry Etim may fight Per Eklund.

GSP vs Hughes III….cant wait to see it….yeah, im not giving Serra a shot.
This event has long been rumored but it wasn’t really known if it would be in England or in Canada. I am trying to confirm the fights as well.
I would like to see GSP get his title shot in front of his home crowd instead of in England. That would be a gift for both him, and for Canada. Another English show means another Bisbing fight. Maybe the 2 most controvercial fighters will fight(Tito and Bisbing?) I hope this show will be aired on “free” cable. I don’t like to get the early PPVs because I have a party for all of the PPVs, and 1pm is a little early to be tearing it up. I’m getting old.
does anyone know what channel the ultimatefighter will be on the sopcast or tvu players?
i think kongo should have a main event fight on this card make him fight mir since nog is waiting 4 da winner of silvia and vera
Well if the GSP is going to fight in January and the Hughes-Serra match is December 29th….GSP wont be fighting for the title…I wouldnt think so at least. Do you think he is going to fight someone else?
maybe rush might fight fitch who knows
Fitch GSP would be a great one. Fitch is prolly pretty close, if not, the best welterweight in the UFC. My opinion only.
yeah he is good but i wanted diego 2 beat him do u know if sopcast will have the ultimate fighter 6 i have 2 watch the mainland time cause i cant watch it in hawaii time tonight so im wondering if u guys know someone plz respond?
Newcastle will be great! the atmosphere will be crazy, the further north you go in England the more passionate the fans!!!!

I’m hoping for either GSP vs. Hughes III or GSP vs. Fitch.
Well I dont think Hughes is gonna fight the following month after he gets his title back…but I agree on the Fitch fight SpWedle….that would be a war.
