If you predicted that Valentina Shevchenko would defeat Julianna Pena at UFC on FOX 23, you’re not alone. But if you called that she would submit Pena, well, you’re in very select company…
The consensus leading up to last night was that if the fight stayed on its feet, Shevchenko would take it, on account of her ridiculously decorated career in Muay Thai. Pena took the bout down in round two, but found herself ensnared in a fight ending armbar.
After the impressive win, Shevchenko spoke with the UFC’s Megan Olivi, and noted that she’s a “complete fighter”. She also said things will go differently the second time she faces bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes. The latter decisioned her in March, 2016.
