Plenty of all-star fighters and contenders have said they want to fight Conor McGregor, and evidently you can add the legendary Anderson Silva to that list…
Since Silva is one of the most accomplished fighters in history, and remains one of the biggest names in the game, the former middleweight champ’s fielded plenty of questions about fellow star, Mr. McGregor. Case in point, recently Silva argued that the lightweight champ has “flaws” like every fighter, and that McGregor “doesn’t have jiu-jitsu”.
Since then, however, Silva reported he’s interested in fighting McGregor, while speaking to the media in his home country of Brazil (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I’d like to test myself against Conor because he’s an interesting martial artist,” Silva said. “His stand-up game is an intelligent game. Not because he’s champion now, but for the martial arts challenge. I’d like to see how these stand-up techniques, his and mine, would mix, and how that would go. But not to fight for a belt or anything like that. For the challenge, an interest, that thing about knowing how a fight like this would go.”
Now that would be a massive, massive fight, no question. But what about the weight? Well, according to Silva he could get down to 175, 174, in terms of facilitating a catchweight fight. But, realistically, when you consider McGregor’s upcoming challengers for the 155 title, the weight difference, Silva’s age etc, the chances of this happening are slim.
Up next for Silva is middleweight contender Derek Brunson, who he’ll face on February 11 at UFC 208.
