Last Saturday’s bout between Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz cracked the 2 million viewer mark for Bellator and it’s broadcasting partner, Spike TV.
Earlier in the week it was reported by the network that preliminary data indicated the headliner for Bellator 170 drew 1.85 million viewers. Now, Spike has announced that the updated numbers show that Ortiz – Sonnen pulled in an audience of 2.2 million.
Ortiz took Sonnen down shortly into the main event, and submitted the UFC vet with a rear-naked-choke. The fight was the final contest of Ortiz’s memorable career.
The card averaged 1.5 million viewers overall, which makes it the third biggest card to date for Bellator. The January 21st card took place at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
So, this is more good news for Viacom, which is the parent company of Spike and Bellator.
