Jorge Masvidal has fought over 40 times during his professional career, and has been with the UFC since 2013, but his next opponent’s not sure if he’s even seen him fight…
Yes, that opponent is Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, who will face Masvidal this Saturday at UFC on FOX 23. During the card’s “Road to the Octagon” show, Cerrone had this to say, while discussing the welterweight contender (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I don’t even know if I’ve ever seen Masvidal fight,” Cerrone said. “I think he’s like a boxer, wrestler. Pretty good jiu-jitsu. Sounds like he’s pretty good at striking. I don’t know how his wrestling is. I’m going to bet I’m better at all three.”
Now before you call BS on this, Cerrone has said that he doesn’t watch a lot of fights and or footage of his opponents. So it could very well be the case that Cerrone doesn’t really recall watching Masvidal throw down.
Cerrone will be looking for his fifth straight win at welterweight, and during the show, “Cowboy” also had this to say:
“I’m going to go whip Masvidal’s ass, call out one of these top contenders or call out (welterweight champion Tyron) Woodley, and say, ‘Let’s dance, baby. I’m going to go get this belt in 2017. I’m coming. It’s mine. We’re just getting warmed up.”
It has all the makings of a tremendous fight. Masvidal is one of the toughest, many would say most underrated welterweights in the UFC.
