It looks like Johny Hendricks run at welterweight is indeed, finally over, following his third straight defeat in December.
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani is reporting the UFC is trying to book a middleweight bout between Hendricks and former welterweight Hector Lombard for February 19th. A Fight Night card is scheduled to take place that day in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Hendricks failed to make weight for his fight last month with Neil Magny, who went on to win the UFC 207 fight via UD. Hendricks has had considerable trouble making 170 in recent years, and after failing to make weight for the Magny bout, “Bigg Rigg” said he planned to move to 185.
Lombard, meanwhile, returned to the middleweight division last June, but he was knocked out by Dan Henderson at UFC 201. Prior to that he was stopped by the aforementioned Magny.
The UFC has not made any announcement regarding the reported fight.
