Strikeforce is making headlines for more than it’s anticipated return to CBS tonight with “Strikeforce: Nashville,” as the promotion has re-signed light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi, while it’s upcoming schedule continues to take shape.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced on Friday that Mousasi (28-2-1), who meets “King Mo” Lawal in one of three title fights on tonight’s card, has signed a two-year, four-fight minimum extension to remain with the promotion.
Coker also announced Strikeforce’s June 16 event in Los Angeles, which is expected to be headlined by a rematch between middleweights Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Robbie Lawler, with heavyweight Bobby Lashley and 145-pound women’s champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos also rumored for the card.
According to MMA Fighting, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Joey Villasenor and Kid Yamamoto vs. Federico Lopez are in the works for Strikeforce’s May 15 “Heavy Artillery” event, while Matt Lindland is likely to meet Kevin Casey in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 8 on May 21 in Portland, Oregon.
