It looks like “Jacare” Souza’s manager is having a tough time locking up the middleweight contender a bout.
The Brazilian star is coming off a quick stoppage win over Vitor Belfort, which went down in May, 2016. Souza was booked to fight former champ Luke Rockhold in November, but the latter had to withdraw due to injury. After that happened, Souza’s manager began campaigning for a title fight with champion Michael Bisping. But, since Yoel Romero put away Chris Weidman at UFC 205, the expectation is that the Cuban wrestler will fight Bisping next.
So where does that leave Souza? Well, recently the fighter’s manager Gilberto Faria posted the image and comments below on Instagram:
I am about to run an ad on Craigslist…..Looking for a middleweight fighter to fight @ronaldojacare at @ufc . We can fight as soon as February 11th #ufcbrooklyn please contact Mick Maynard or @danawhite for more details @arielhelwani @stephenquadros @guilhermecruzzzzz @raphamarinho89 @jdistak @rogeriocamoes @pedrorizzomma @gvenga @alonsopvt @canalcombateoficial
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If Rockhold can return in the not too distant future, then you would think the UFC would look at rebooking a bout with Souza. But, it certainly looks like Souza’s camp are trying to find him a bout soon, with no luck so far. Aside from Rockhold and Romero, the other top five ranked 185’ers are Chris Weidman and Gegard Mousasi. Souza submitted Mousasi in 2014, and Weidman is coming off a tough, stoppage defeat in November. What about Robert Whittaker? Who is ranked #6?
