Amanda Nunes Doesn’t “Understand Why Those Girls Lost to Ronda Rousey”

Ronda Rousey pretty much cruised through the first six opponents she faced in the UFC, but Amanda Nunes evidently doesn’t understand how that’s possible.

Nunes defended the 135 title at UFC 207 last month, by putting Rousey away with a series of big punches in just 48 seconds. Leading up to the fight, there was certainly a lot of people who believed Nunes would be too much for Rousey. Especially since the latter was competing for the first time since 2015, when Holly Holm KO’d her.

But, there was also plenty of people who thought Rousey would win. After all, this is a woman who needed less than three minutes total, to defend the bantamweight title four times before facing Holm.

Well, recently TMZ caught up with Nunes, and the heavy handed champ made it clear that she was never too impressed with Rousey (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I don’t know how Ronda Rousey went too far in this division. Honestly, I don’t understand why those girls lost to Ronda Rousey. I know since my first fight in the UFC I can beat Ronda Rousey, but of course I have to take my time and put everything together. That day was the day to prove to everybody and I did it.”

“Yes, for sure [Rousey is overrated]. The UFC make this happen. They put her in a place where she’s not at. But I know I can beat Ronda Rousey since I saw her first fight.”

Now obviously Rousey supporters, and even some impartial observers, might take issue with these comments. It’s an interesting debate, in terms of whether Rousey was ‘overrated’, and it  likely won’t end anytime soon.
