WEC featherweight contender Josh Grispi will return to action for the first time in more than a year when he takes on L.C. Davis at WEC 49 on June 20 in Edmonton, Canada.
The matchup, which was first announced by Grispi on Tuesday, is expected to take place on the event’s Versus-televised main card.
Grispi (13-1) suffered an ankle injury days before a June 2009 matchup with Jens Pulver, but chose not to withdraw and went on to submit Pulver in just 33-seconds before undergoing surgery that has sidelined him since. “The Fluke” is currently on a nine-fight win streak that also includes WEC victories over Mark Hominick and Micah Miller.
Davis (16-2) rebounded from a March 2009 Sengoku loss to Michihiro Omigawa with a split decision over Javier Vazquez in his WEC debut in August, and has since improved to 3-0 in the WEC with decision victories over Diego Nunes in November and Deividas Taurosevicius in March.
WEC 49 is also expected to include Chris Horodecki vs. Ed Ratcliff, Mark Hominick, and Yves Jabouin.
