Holloway took out Anthony Pettis at UFC 206 to secure the interim 145 belt, and in doing so, he locked up a bout with the undisputed champion Aldo. During the post-fight presser, however, Holloway cited Aldo’s track record of injuries, as to why he wasn’t certain he’ll face the Brazilian at UFC 208. Holloway noted that he didn’t want to miss out on his son’s birthday, and Christmas celebrations, only to have Aldo drop-out. As a result, Holloway said he plans to meet with UFC boss man Dana White to discuss what’s next.
Well, clearly Aldo is set on fighting February 11th, as he had this to say today, while speaking to the Brazilian media (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“The date is certain,” Aldo said. “I’ll fight that day, whether it’s with him or somebody else. Whether he’ll show up or not is his problem.”
“I think everybody has a family,” Aldo added. “Everyone has kids, dates, everything. So if you want to be champion, there’s no such thing (as picking dates).”
So, there you go. Obviously if this fight does go down, Holloway’s not going to have much down time in between fights. Aldo, meanwhile, hasn’t fought since July when he decisioned Frankie Edgar.
UFC 208 will take place at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York.
