After taking out Matt Brown in emphatic fashion at UFC 206, Donald Cerrone has made it abundantly clear that he wants to fight next month in Denver. But who does the Colorado native want to face?
Well, after Cerrone KO’d Brown with a highlight reel, switch kick, “Cowboy” was asked who he’d like to fight. The 33 year-old said this (quote via MMA Mania):
“I don’t care, I really don’t. But if I had to pick one, it would be Demian Maia since he is on his way to the top to a title fight,” said Cerrone. “But if I had to hurry up and choose someone for Denver, then whoever they want to give me. That doesn’t matter to me at all. Staying busy, staying fun, that’s what I love.”
Now obviously that’s a fight that a lot of folks would like to see. But, since Maia has won six straight fights and is sitting in the #3 ranking at 170, he’s been calling for a title shot. So, chances are the galaxy class grappler isn’t interested in facing Cerrone at this juncture. In addition, the Denver bound, UFC on FOX 23 card will take place on January 28th, so Maia would have to kick into camp mode right away here.
One man who recently called out Cerrone, however, is Jorge Masvidal. As a result, Cerrone also had this to say:
“Hopefully I get back here (to the locker room) and they have a contract waiting for me,” added Cerrone. “If it’s Masvidal, then f–king ‘A,’ and if it’s someone else, even better. “Let’s go.”
Don’t be surprised if the UFC gets Cerrone someone to fight at the upcoming event. Adding Cerrone would definitely drive more traffic to the card.
With Saturday’s win, Cerrone has won four straight fights now since he moved up to 170, following his loss to Rafael dos Anjos last December.
