After Anthony Pettis failed to make weight for his featherweight scrap with Max Holloway tonight, Dana White is questioning “Showtime’s” future at 145.
Pettis came in 148 pounds for the UFC 206 headliner, and as a result, he can no longer win the interim 145 title. White appeared on TSN’s Sportscenter after the weigh-in results had been revealed, and the UFC President said this about Pettis (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I’m not happy, but listen, it happens,” said White. “Believe me when I tell you, Anthony Pettis wanted to make weight. He’s been working for months for this day. He came in, when he landed here in Toronto, he was 10 pounds (over), so he should’ve made the weight. What that tells you is he’s too old and he’s too big to make that weight, is my opinion. So we’ll see where we go from here.”
It will be interesting to see how Pettis looks tonight, and whether he appears to be fully energized, following the brutal cut.
