Chad Mendes Steps In to Fight Anthony Morrison at WEC 48 in Sacramento

Following his successful WEC debut over Erik Koch at last month’s WEC 47, undefeated featherweight Chad Mendes announced today that will replace an injured Mackens Semerzier and face Anthony Morrison on April 24 at WEC 48 in his hometown of Sacramento, California.

Mendes (6-0), a member of Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, suffered a cut in the March 6 preliminary bout but still went on to earn a unanimous decision to improve to 6-0, while Morrison (15-8) had won four of his last five bouts before suffering a first-round submission to former 145-pound champ Mike Brown in his WEC debut in January.

The WEC’s pay-per-view debut, WEC 48 is headlined by featherweight champ Jose Aldo vs. former title-holder Urijah Faber, and also includes lightweight champ Ben Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone and Mike Brown vs. Manny Gamburyan, while Mendes-Morrison will be featured on the unaired prelims.
