The UFC’s next card in New York State will no longer feature a fight between bantamweight contenders Raphael Assuncao and Aljamain Sterling.

UFC officials have confirmed with MMA Junkie that Sterling has withdrawn from UFC Fight Night 102 due to an undisclosed injury. The December 9th event will go down in Albany, New York. The promotion is hoping to find Assuncao a new opponent.

So, clearly this is unfortunate news, as that was a very interesting bout at 135.

Assuncao is ranked #3 in the bantamweight division and Sterling is sitting in the #8 spot. Plus, both men are coming off decision defeats. Sterling (12-1) lost via split decision to Bryan Caraway in May, and Assuncao is coming off a UD loss to TJ Dillashaw in July.
