It looks like Conor McGregor won’t fight again until next May at the earliest, but Khabib Nurmagomedov isn’t letting up in his campaign to fight the two division champ.
At UFC 205, McGregor took out Eddie Alvarez to secure the lightweight belt, and Nurmagomedov submitted Michael Johnson to moved his pro-record to 24-0. During the bout, yes during it, Nurmagomedov told Dana White that he plans to “smash” McGregor, and the vaunted grappler continues to toss verbal shots at the Irish star.
Case in point, recently the lightweight contender spoke to RT Sports, and here is some of what Nurmagomedov had to say:
“Conor is a very good striking guy – everybody knows this. Good boxing, good timing. His counter-punches are very good. But everybody knows I have a very good top control, wrestling, pressure. Why would I fight in a stand up with him? I’m gonna take him down, I’m gonna slap him, make him nervous, talk with him, and make him give up.”
It’s certainly a fight a lot of folks want to see, but will it go down next? Even though Nurmagomedov has said he’ll accept nothing else than a title shot? Hard to say. Following UFC 205, McGregor argued Nurmagomedov hasn’t been active enough to warrant a title shot…The Sambo master missed the better parts of 2014 and 2015 due to a knee injury.
