Recently there’s been talk that Fedor Emelianenko could be headed to Bellator, and on Saturday, the promotion announced it has signed “The Last Emperor” to a multi-fight contract.
In addition, Bellator has confirmed that Emelianenko will take on UFC vet Matt Mitrione on February 18th, in the headliner of Bellator 172. The card will take place in San Jose. In fact, Emelianenko walked out during the Bellator 165 broadcast to face off with Mitrione (and the Russian star was wearing ‘the sweater’ by the way…).
Emelianenko (36-4) is riding a five fight winning streak, but the 40 year-old legend was battered and bloodied in his majority decision win over Fabio Maldonado this past June.
Mitrione (11-5) has gone 2-0 now since joining Bellator, and most recently in July, he stopped Oli Thompson.
So, that’s a big time signing for Bellator. It will be interesting to see how that fight plays out and what kind of ratings it pulls for Spike.
