It looks like things could get pretty, pretty shaky between the UFC and Khabib Nurmagomedov, if the latter isn’t booked to fight for the lightweight title next.
Nurmagomedov has been making it crystal clear recently that he wants a title shot. In fact, the ridiculously dangerous grappler was relaying this fact during his UFC 205 bout with Michael Johnson… Nurmagomedov ate some heavy shots from Johnson early on in their bout, but “The Eagle” proceeded to put his wrestling and grappling game in action, dominated the fight, and scored a third round submission.
The AKA fighter began calling for a title shot right after his win, and more recently, Nurmagomedov has tweeted out this:

UFC been very good to me this not a threat. I got into this sport for the belt nothing personal https://t.co/1WtGRGAU6o

Really, none of this should come as a surprise. Conor McGregor, and others, have argued that Nurmagomedov shouldn’t get a title shot just yet, since he was sidelined for much of 2014 and all of 2015 with a knee injury. But, when you consider Nurmagomedov’s gone 24-0 now, and has won all 8 of his UFC bouts, no one should be surprised by his stance here. Especially when you consider that it wasn’t long ago, when Nurmagomedov was offered a bout with Eddie Alvarez, only to have the UFC book McGregor instead.
The big question is, however, will McGregor agree to fight Nurmagomedov, even if that’s the UFC wants to sign?
