TJ Dillashaw’s striking has drawn widespread praise in recent years, but the former bantamweight champ’s next opponent, John Lineker, is advising him to return to his wrestling roots…
Dillashaw and Lineker are expected to fight at UFC 207, December 30th, and the winner could very well advance to face whoever takes the Dominick Cruz – Cody Garbrandt scrap that same night. Lineker is riding a six fight wining streak heading into the bout, and anyone who has followed “Hands of Stone”, understands why he has that nickname. Mr. Lineker can crack.
“If I were to fight myself, I would take me down. I believe that’s what he’s going to do, but I hope he strikes against me. I’m ready for everything he has, even if he tries to take me down, but if he tries to strike, I’ll get another knockout. It’s going to be a tough fight because of his movement, I believe I can’t chase him around too much like I did with Dodson. I’ll have to wait for him to come at me instead of going after him. I can’t rush it because he has good speed, combinations and wrestling.”
So will Dillashaw look to take Lineker down like he believes? Probably not unless he gets tagged early on. Dillashaw has largely relied on his vastly improved striking skills in his recent outings. This is a guy who took out Renan Barao on his feet, not once, but twice.
UFC 207 will go down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In the headliner, Amanda Nunes will take on Ronda Rousey.
