So Donald Cerrone Wants to Close Out 2016 by Scrapping Demian Maia

Donald Cerrone may have his fourth fight of 2016 booked for November 12th, but the rugged vet is still hoping to get one more in, before the year is up.

Cerrone will take on Kelvin Gastelum at the upcoming, UFC 205 card, which will go down in New York City. Recently the lightweight and welterweight had this to say to the media, while discussing his short term future (quote via MMA Mania):

“What I really want to do (after UFC 205), which I think makes the most sense right now is Demian Maia,” said Cerrone. “Let’s see if Demian will be ready to fight on December 30th. He’s up there kicking ass, so that’s what I want to fight.”

“He’s probably the guy to fight next for the title, right?” added Cerrone. “He’s crushing everybody. A lot of those people get scared of people when they’re good. I like it. So, bring that sh-t on.”

How about that for a suggestion huh? There’s no doubt that Maia has been on quite the run as of late. The ridiculously dangerous grappler has won six in a row, and Maia has taken out contenders like Neil Magny, Matt Brown and Carlos Condit during that time. As a result, Maia is sitting in the #3 ranking spot at 170.

Could this bout get added to UFC 207? It’s unlikely.

First off, Cerrone has to get through Gastelum unscathed. Secondly, you would think that the UFC would use Cerrone – Maia as a main event for a Fight Night card,  or as a main card bout for a big PPV. UFC 207 is definitely the latter, but 11 fights are already set for the December 30th event, and the main card is already stacked.
