Recently Shane Carwin teased the fact that he’s going to be fighting for RIZIN FF, and now the Japanese promotion has confirmed that the massive heavyweight will compete in its open-weight, grand prix.
A few days ago, Carwin posted the tweet below, but it wasn’t clear when he would make his RIZIN debut. Well, now we know that the former UFC contender will compete in the second round of RIZIN’s open-weight tourney, which will go down on December 29th in Saitama, Japan.

Carwin’s opponent has not been announced yet, but other second round competitors include Valentin Moldavsky, Amir Aliakbari, Jiri Prochazka, Szymon Bzor, and Baruto. Wanderlei Silva is scheduled to rematch Mirki “Cro Cop” in the second round as well.
The 41 year-old Carwin hasn’t fought in a MMA bout since 2011 when he lost via unanimous decision to Junior dos Santos.
