UFC FN 98: Rafael dos Anjos Says Reclaiming 155 Belt is His Focus, Not Conor McGregor

Rafael dos Anjos

Rafael dos Anjos was robbed of a big time fight with Conor McGregor, due to a broken foot, but the former lightweight champ says reclaiming the 155 title is his main goal, not facing the Irish star.

RDA was scheduled to face McGregor at UFC 196 earlier this year, when he was the reigning champ at 155. But, not long before the fight was scheduled to take place, the Brazilian broke his foot in training and had to withdraw. Then, in July, dos Anjos was taken out by Eddie Alvarez, and now the latter is going to battle McGregor at UFC 205.

Well, dos Anjos will look to get back on track at UFC Fight Night 98, when he takes on Tony Ferguson. Since “El Cucuy” has won eight straight fights, if RDA wins, he’ll take a big step towards fighting for the lightweight belt once again. Recently the dangerous fighter spoke with MMA Weekly, and while discussing his goals, RDA said this about McGregor:

“(Fighting McGregor) is not my goal, my goal is get my belt back. If he has the title and don’t want to hide it like he’s doing with the 145-pound title, I’ll be ready to take it back.”

There you have it. Obviously dos Anjos would be in for a massive payday, if he were to face McGregor for the lightweight belt. But, there are plenty of challenges ahead, before that happens.  It’s also important to note that Khabib Nurmagomedov is waiting in the wings, and if he gets by Michael Johnson on November 12th, it’s hard to image he won’t challenge for the 155 title next.
