A rematch between former welterweight title challengers Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch that was originally scheduled for UFC 111 but was scrapped after concerns raised during Alves’ pre-fight CT scan has now been scheduled for UFC 115 which will take place June 12 in Vancouver, Canada, according a Tweet from Dana White. Alves underwent a minor outpatient operation Wednesday to correct the issue, and will be training again soon.
The two fighters originally met at UFC Fight Night 5 in June 2006, with Fitch winning via upkick TKO late in the second round. Since that bout both men have challenged welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre for the title, with neither man coming out on top. However, other than their losses to St-Pierre, both men have defeated all comers since their previous meeting.
Alves was last in action facing St-Pierre at UFC 100, and has twice now had to postpone his Octagon return, first for a knee injury before UFC 107 in December, and most recently for the corrected brain irregularity.
Fitch last fought at UFC 111, defeating Ben Saunders, who replaced Alves following his withdrawal from the card. In his previous bout he defeated Mike Pierce who replaced Alves at UFC 107.
