Kendall Grove was unable to spoil Alexander Shlemenko’s return to Bellator tonight, as the latter’s striking and feared liver shot, proved to be his undoing.
Shlemenko stunned Grove in the opening round with some telling punches, but the UFC vet returned fire and also appeared to hurt the former middleweight champ. In round two, however, Shlemenko planted a hard left hook to the liver of Grove, and cracked him with a right hand. As “Storm” poured down punches from above the fight was eventually stopped.
Shlemenko was returning to Bellator for the first time since he had a three year suspension for a positive test for steroids, reduced to one year. The Russian fighter received the suspension after he knocked out Melvin Manhoef last February. Shlemenko has denied ever taking PEDs.
During his suspension in North America, Shlemenko competed twice for M-1, and won both fights.
In the co-headliner for Bellator 162, pro-wrestling star Bobby Lashley cruised through Josh Appelt and submitted him with a second round, rear-naked-choke.
Here are the main card results for tonight’s event, which went down in Memphis.
