Chael Sonnen’s Bellator debut has been booked, as according to a report from ESPN, the “American Gangster” will scrap Tito Ortiz on January 21st. The light-heavyweight fight will serve as the headliner for Bellator 170, which will go down at The Forum in Los Angeles.
Sonnen (28-14-1) will be returning to the cage for the first time since 2013, and for the first time since he announced his retirement in 2014. In Sonnen’s last bout, he was stopped by Rashad Evans at UFC 167. The Oregon star was supposed to fight Wanderlei Silva in 2014, but Sonnen was flagged for banned substances and was suspended by the Nevada Commission.
Ortiz (18-12-1) is looking to get back on track, after he was submitted in the opening round by Bellator’s 205 champ Liam McGeary, this past September.
So there you go. It will be interesting to see what kind of ratings that bout generates for Spike.
