It’s not exactly going to be business as usual for the UFC, following the promotion’s sale to WME-IMG, as according to reports the company is laying off employees.
Recently both MMA Junkie.com and MMA Fighting.com reported that a source has confirmed that layoffs are underway in the UFC. The source says that “less than 15%” of the staff are being let go, but, when you consider that the promotion reportedly had about 350 – 400 employees, that’s still quite a few people.
The layoffs are reportedly being done at the promotion’s headquarters in Las Vegas, but in other departments around the world.
Not long ago, it was reported that UFC executive and matchmaker Joe Silva is retiring from the company at the end of the year. Public Relations VP Dave Sholler is also leaving, as he’s taken a position with the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers.
