It remains to be seen who Dominick Cruz will fight next, but the bantamweight champ has relayed he’d be more than willing to face Conor McGregor. Not only that, but Cruz is down for a fight with McGregor at either 145 or 155…
McGregor, as you know, is booked to challenge Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on November 12th. McGregor will do so, while he remains the featherweight champ. The Irish star won the 145 title last December by knocking out Jose Aldo.
“Look everyone’s calling out Conor McGregor, and I don’t want to be another guy because everybody wants that fight. But, the thing is, McGregor is picking his own fights. So that’s not up to me, it’s not up to UFC, it’s up to McGregor. Now I know as much as McGregor, and more, about this sport than anybody and it seems that the only way to beat McGregor is with your mind. I know I can do that and I know that I can also technically beat him. And I know that at 145 pounds I am extremely fast and hard to deal with. I can beat McGregor, absolutely. And I would love to fight him at 145 pounds or 155 pounds if he wins the title…”
How about that huh? Now, sure, watching the greatest bantamweight ever take on McGregor would be fascinating to see. But really, the chances of this happening anytime soon are slim.
Cruz has contenders like TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt to deal with at 135, and it’s still unclear what the future holds for McGregor, in terms of what weight he’s going to compete at. But, you never know. If Cruz clears out the 135 division and McGregor does defend the 145 title, then maybe the UFC would look at this down the line.
