Conor McGregor has been a driving force behind some of the biggest UFC cards to date, and has dominated headlines in 2016, but according to Dana White, Ronda Rousey remains the promotion’s biggest star. By a lot…
Rousey has yet to compete since she was KO’d last November by Holly Holm, and since then, McGregor has reached even higher levels of super stardom. After all, both UFC 196 and 202 are believed to have been the top two selling cards in UFC history. As you know, they featured Diaz – McGregor I and II.
“By far. Not even close, by far the biggest star ever.”
“Ronda Rousey is such a big star that when you go down to Brazil – I don’t know if you guys have watched any of the fights we do from Brazil — they don’t care who you are. They want the Brazilian to whoop your ass. When Ronda went down there, they cheered for Ronda over the Brazilian. Never seen that before in my life and will probably never see it again. That’s how big Ronda Rousey is.”
As the article above accurately notes, PPV sales and attendance figures aren’t the only consideration, when it comes to determining a fighter’s profile. McGregor is a huge, huge name in the combat sports world. No question. But Rousey has become a household name thanks to her numerous acting gigs, appearances and endorsements.
Just think if Rousey returns to the UFC and re-takes the 135 title….
