Recently it was reported that Ronda Rousey’s been offered a year end bout with Amanda Nunes, but “Rowdy’s” former opponent, Liz Carmouche, doesn’t think she’ll be returning to the cage.
Since Rousey was KO’d by Holly Holm last November, there’s been no shortage of speculation and talk, as to when the former 135 champ will come back. Not long ago, the contention was that Rousey won’t be back in 2016, but that eventually, she’ll return. Her boyfriend Travis Browne has even reportedly said he feels “bad” for whoever faces Rousey next.
Recently Bloody Elbow spoke with Liz Carmouche, who was submitted by Rousey back in 2013. That fight, in fact, marked the first time Rousey defended the bantamweight title, after she moved over from Strikeforce to the UFC. When Carmouche was asked if she’d be interested in fighting Rousey again, she stated:
“Yeah, absolutely. I’ve always said it and I always will, that my eye is always on that title. That’s what I’m gunning for. If I get a rematch with somebody, cool, but if they’re not holding the belt, I really don’t care. I want the person that has the belt and that’s what I’m going for. I don’t think Ronda [Rousey] will ever fight again, so I think a rematch is out of the question.”
How about that? Other fighters have certainly speculated that Rousey won’t be back, but it does seem like things are going on behind the scenes, in terms of her return.Carmouche, meanwhile, is booked to fight Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 205, November 12th.
