UFC 111 Results, Live Play-by-Play for “St-Pierre vs. Hardy”

Welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre puts his title on the line against challenger Dan Hardy in the UFC 111 main event, while heavyweight contenders Frank Mir and Shane Carwin meet for the interim title in the night’s co-headliner. will have live preliminary card results starting at 7pm ET, followed by results and play-by-play for the Spike-televised prelims at 9pm and pay-per-view main card at 10pm.

Round 1 – Brown pushes forward, but Almedia immediately shoots for a takedown and trips Brown to the ground from the clinch. Brown works back to his feet, but Almeida trips him down again. Brown stands and Almeida works for another takedown, but the fight stalls and they’re separated. Almeida goes for the takedown on the restart, but Brown fends it off. Almedia breaks the clinch and unleashes a combo. After a brief scramble, Almedia continues to work for the takedown and lands a final combo before the round ends. scores the round for Almeida 10-9.

Round 2 – Brown opens with leg kicks, but Almeida grabs one and takes Brown to the canvas. Brown gets to the cage and stands, but Almeida scores a trip. Almeida throws some punches from top, allowing Brown a chance to get back to his feet. Almeida works for another takedown against the cage, but they’re restarted. Brown throws another kick that’s caught by Almeida, who tags him with an elbow and promptly gets mount then takes his back. Brown is bloodied and looks to stand, but Almedia keeps him on the ground, softens him with punches, then locks on a rear naked choke that forces Brown to tap.

Round 1 – Both fighters are active early with punches and kicks, with Markham throwing power strikes and Diaz keeping a higher pace with moderate power. Diaz overwhelms Markham with punches, then downs him with a knee and follows up with punches on the ground before taking Markham’s back and locking up a body triangle. Diaz flattens Markham out and unloads punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight.

Round 1 – Miller and Bocek clinch to start the bout, then Bocek press forward and secures an early takedown, but Miller gets back to his feet. They trade knees in the clinch then fight for position before Bocek backs away and they square off in the center. Miller fires a kick before Bocek grabs another takedown. Bocek escapes an omoplata, then Miller works a kimura but Bocek escapes again. Miller finishes the frame on top of the now-cut Bocek. scores round one for Miller 10-9.

Round 2 – Miller boxing to start the second, then Bocek gets another takedown. Bocek passes to half guard then side control, but Miller works back to guard. Bocek stands, returns to Miller’s guard with punches, and repeats. Miller grabs a leg, but Bocek scrambles away and gets mount, forcing Miller to give up his back. Bocek locks in the body triangle and works for the rear naked choke, but Miller is able to fend him off. Miller stands with Bocek still on his back and slams him to the ground before the end of the frame. gives Bocek the second 10-9.

Round 3 – Miller and Bocek stand and trade to begin the third. Bocek shoots for a takedown, but Miller sprawls and they separate. Both fighters continue to throw punches, but nothing significant connects. Bocek tries for another takedown, but Miller keeps it standing and connects with some knees. Miller looks for a takedown of his own, but he’s not successful, then Bocek looks to take it to the ground. Miller falls, but returns to his feet. Miller and Bocek battle for position in the clinch before Bocek claims a takedown. Miller scrambles away in the closing seconds and takes Bocek’s back, finishing the fight with punches to the body. scores the round for Miller 10-9, giving him the win on our card 29-28.

Round 1 – Fitch and Saunders touch gloves, then both move forward with punches. They quickly clinch against the fence, with Saunders pressing Fitch against the cage, before he reverses. Fitch and Saunders trade knees, then Fitch throws Saunders for a takedown and presses him against the fence. Punches to the body from Fitch on top, while Saunders looks to make some space. Fitch continues to pressure Saunders with punches from the top as he looks to pass, while Saunders is unable to escape, but does connect with some punches from the bottom. Saunders forced to control Fitch to limit damage. Ground and pound from Fitch closes out the round. scores the first for Fitch 10-9.

Round 2 – Saunders firing high kicks to start the second, but Fitch avoids them before picking Saunders up in the clinch and slams him to the ground. Fitch working punches from Saunders’ guard and looks to pass, while Saunders continues to do a good job controlling from the bottom. Fitch into half guard, where he continues to grind away with punches and elbows as Saunders offers nothing in return. Fitch continues to dominate, but Referee Dan Miragliotta obliges the booing crowd and stands the fighters. Fitch back into the clinch, where he works knees to close out the frame. gives the second to Fitch 10-9, putting him up 20-18 on our card through two.

Round 3 – Good right by Fitch start the final round. They briefly clinch, then separate, before Fitch shoots for another takedown. Saunders stays standing and works for a kimura, but Fitch escapes and they trade knees in the clinch before they’re restarted. Fitch moves forward with a combo into the clinch, but Saunders works for another kimura. Fitch moves to his back and looks to soften Saunders with punches. Fitch connects as they separate, then tags Saunders again before getting a takedown. More ground and pound by Fitch, who passes to half guard and continues the assault. Fitch teeing off  with elbows to finish the bout. scores the final round for Fitch 10-9, giving him a 30-27 decision.

Round 1 – Camoes rushes forward looking for a takedown. Pellegrino stays on his feet, but Camoes takes his back in a scramble. Camoes works for a rear naked choke from the back, but Pellegrino slams his head to the canvas and escapes. Pellegrino takes Camoes back in a scramble and works for a choke, then briefly gets mount, but Camoes gets back to guard while working submissions off his back. Pellegrino passes to side control, but Camoes looks for a D’arce and Pellegrino returns to his guard, when he controls the rest of the round. scores the first for Pellegrino 10-9.

Round 2 – Pellegrino briefly gets Camoes’ back early in the second, but they separate and stand. Camoes misses with a looping punch and Pellegrino gets a takedown and drops elbows from Camoes’ guard. Pellegrino works body punches as he passes to side control, then mount. Pellegrino looks to posture and throw punches, but Camoes gets Pellegrino to side control. Camoes tries to stand, but Pellegrino connects with knees and gets him back on the ground, where he takes Camoes’ back and sinks in a rear naked choke. Camoes is unable to escape and taps.

Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship

Round 1 – Carwin tries for an early takedown, but it’s stopped by Mir. Carwin presses Mir against the cage in the clinch and works punches and knees, while Mir appears content to wait for a restart, which eventually comes. Mir moves forward with punches and gets Carwin in the clinch, but it’s reversed and Carwin again goes to work from the outside. Carwin hurts Mir with an inside combo finished with an uppercut, then unloads with more punches. The fight looks like it should be stopped, but Mir is allowed to continue only to be finished by Carwin with another barrage of punches from the top, forcing the referee to finally step in.

UFC Welterweight Championship

Round 1 – St-Pierre gets an early takedown despite Hardy grabbing the fence. GSP to side control, the quickly takes Hardy’s back, sets his hook and works for the rear naked choke. Hardy escapes, but St-Pierre immediately takes him down again and passes to half guard, where he works punches from the top. Hardy tries to keep control, but St-Pierre gets mount. Hardy gives up his back and stands, with St-Pierre close to slipping off, but he falls back to the ground where St-Pierre works for a rear naked choke then transitions to an armbar but Hardy escapes to his feet just before the round ends. scores the round for St-Pierre 10-9.

Round 2 – St. Pierre and Hardy stay standing to start the second, but nothing significant connects before St-Pierre gets another takedown into side control. St-Pierre works knees and punches to the body, then tries for mount but Hardy scrambles away and gives up his back. St-Pierre is too high and Hardy slips him off and is into St-Pierre’s guard. St-Pierre and Hardy return to their feet. Hardy firing kicks. GSP connects with a punch, but Hardy shrugs it off. Another takedown for St-Pierre into Hardy’s guard, where they finishing the frame. scores the second for St-Pierre 10-9, putting him up 20-18 on our card.

Round 3 – Another takedown for St-Pierre to start the third, but Hardy throwing punches from the bottom. St-Pierre gets control of stacks him to drop punches and elbows from the top. Straight right connects before St-Pierre stands and connects with more powerful punches. Something is wrong with Hardy’s eye, as he rubs it while attempting to control St-Pierre, who passes to side control and continues with punches to the body. St-Pierre looks to setup an armbar, but Hardy evades. Hardy scrambles to his feet, and is immediately taken back down with a single leg. St-Pierre smothers Hardy from side control and looks for mount, but Hardy gives up his back again. St-Pierre is again too high, and Hardy shakes him off, but St-Pierre reclaims the top to end the round. Another 10-9 frame for St-Pierre, who’s now up 30-27.

Round 4 – Hardy moves forward to start the fourth, and St-Pierre easily gets another takedown. St-Pierre again passes to side control then gets Hardy’s back, but Hardy’s reverses briefly only to have St-Pierre get back on top, then moves back to side control, where he continues to control Hardy while mixing elbows and punches to the body. St-Pierre grabs a kimura and cranks it, and Hardy appears close to tapping, but manages to escape, only to have St-Pierre reclaim side control. Hardy absorbing punches to the body, but gets St-Pierre back to half guard. St-Pierre goes for a late knee bar, but the horn sounds. gives the round to St-Pierre 10-9, putting him up 40-36.

Round 5 – St-Pierre begins the final round with yet another takedown and looks for an armbar on the ground. Hardy tries to stand, but GSP takes his back instead and drops knees to his side. Hardy gets back to half guard, but St-Pierre works for the kimura from top. Hardy escapes, but St-Pierre re-positions and briefly tries an Americana before continuing with punches and knees to the body of Hardy. St-Pierre punches Hardy in the head to setup another kimura, but it’s again unsuccessful. More knees to the body by St-Pierre before Hardy stands only to be slammed back to the ground. St-Pierre tries for a late kneebar, but the fight ends. scores the round for St-Pierre 10-9, giving him a clean sweep and 50-45 decision.
